I once read there were Al Qaeda cells in 27 states, including seven in Florida alone, where I live. Three in Orlando. Does that mean terrorism strengthens as it edges closer to fantasy?
In any case, three indictments yesterday out of Ohio for men plotting attacks on U.S. Troops. Two of the men are citizens born in Jordan.
What got me was this:
The indictment says El-Hindi tried to obtain help from a U.S. citizen with a military background, someone only identified by prosecutors as the trainer. It turns out the trainer was working with federal investigators all along and kept law enforcement officials informed of the alleged conspiracy.
So this undercover “trainer” infiltration is the same one used in the investigation leading up to the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993--as well as in a couple of other long-term investigations. Obviously, those terrorists need to check their trainer's references more closely.
Practical note: It's an optimistic sign, because it means that many of the Al-Qaeda-Net coalitions are too loosely connected to maintain institutional knowledge.
